On Monday, the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers—New Brunswick hosted representatives from Voter Choice NJ (VCNJ) for a presentation on Ranked Choice Voting (RCV).
The presentation, which included an election simulation that ranked cookie flavors with RCV-formatted ballots, began with an overview of the current voting system. The presentation attributed today’s system to negative campaigns, limited choices and “wasted” ballots.
Rank the entire field
“RCV functions as an instant runoff. Voters don’t have to pick one candidate — they rank the entire field, in order of preference, without fear that this will hurt the chances of their favorite candidate,” according to the VCNJ website.
