KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A resolution seeking to allow Ranked Choice Voting for Kalamazoo’s mayoral and city commissioner elections was adopted Monday.

Instead of the traditional casting of votes, Ranked Choice Voting, or RCV, would allow voters to rank candidates in order of preference (i.e. first, second, third, etc.), according to the City of Kalamazoo.

Election integrity and trust

“One thing we are very very focused on here and our City Clerk has done an fabulous job of it, is trying to reinforce this idea of election integrity and trust and obviously a big problem with that in our country right now,” City of Kalamazoo Mayor, David Anderson said.

The idea of switching to an RCV system was proposed through a citizen-initiative ballot petition filed May 24.
