BURLINGTON, Vt. — Ranked choice voting is back in Burlington for Town Meeting Day and it could be expanding to more city races in the future. Next week, Burlington voters will use “RCV,” also known as instant runoff voting, or “IRV,” to elect their city councilors.
A stronger electorate
But, the Queen City’s voters will also decide if they want to use RCV in future elections for mayor, school board commissioner, and ward officers.
“Ranked choice voting has a ton of benefits, it empowers voters and gives a stronger electorate,” said Sam McGinty, with the Vermont Public Research Interest Group.
